What happened

Elon Musk sued OpenAI in a lawsuit last week that alleged that the startup had abandoned its original mission and started chasing profits instead. OpenAI has now responded to the lawsuit in full force with some startling claims of what went down behind the scenes.

What was said

In a blog posted yesterday, OpenAI claim that after initial discussions around fundraising, all parties - including Musk - came to an understanding that OpenAI would need to pivot to a for-profit structure to raise the billions necessary to achieve its mission.

OpenAI alleges that Musk wanted to acquire complete control of the company or have it be merged with Tesla. OpenAI asserts that they couldn’t agree to terms on a for-profit with Musk because they felt it was against the mission for any individual to have absolute control. They claim Musk decided to leave OpenAI to build his own AI competitor within Tesla after stating that OpenAI’s “probability of success was 0.”

OpenAI argues that Musk understood that the company’s mission did not imply open-sourcing AGI. OpenAI shared several alleged images of email conversations between the parties to back their claims.

Why it matters

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Markets expect generative AI to be one of the biggest driving forces for the global economy in the coming years, and OpenAI is the poster child of the gen AI wave. With lawsuits from Musk, the New York Times, and others, OpenAI finds itself under attack on multiple fronts.

TOGETHER WITH MASTERWORKS

Painting sold for $8 million, these investors profited

When the painting by master Claude Monet (you may have heard of him) was bought for $6.8 million and sold for a cool $8 million just 631 days later, investors in shares of the offering received their share of the net proceeds.

All thanks to Masterworks, the award-winning platform for investing in blue-chip art. To date, every one of Masterworks’ 21 sales out of its portfolio has returned a profit to investors. With 3 recent sales, investors realized net annualized returns of 13.9%, 14.6%, and 17.8%.

How does it work? Simple, Masterworks files each offering with the SEC so that nearly anyone can invest in highly coveted artworks for just a fraction of the price of the entire piece.

Shares of every offering are limited, but Superhuman AI readers can skip the waitlist with this exclusive link.

Past performance is not indicative of future returns. Investing involves risk. See Important disclosures at www.masterworks.com/cd

AI AT WORK

How to test multiple AI chatbots simultaneously

If you need to compare outputs from various AI chatbots or find which one fits your needs best, try Poe. It’s a chatbot platform that gives you access to most major AI chatbots in one place.

  • Go to the Poe website and sign up

  • Once you’re logged in, click on Your bots in the tab on the left of your screen

  • Scroll through the list of available chatbots and pick one you want to test

  • Type your prompt in the text box at the bottom of your screen and wait for the response

Poe lets you try chatbots powered by most of the major AI models, like OpenAI’s GPT-4, Google’s Gemini Pro, Anthropic’s Claude 3, Meta’s Llama 70B and more.

We’ve found that different chatbots have different strengths. For example, in our tests we saw that Llama 70b Groq performs best in terms of speed, Gemini does well with retrieving recent news, and GPT-4 performs well as an all rounder.

Poe offers free access to many AI models like Gemini Pro and Claude 3 Sonnet. Some models like GPT-4 require a subscription.
