Arc Search could be the AI-powered search alternative that changes how we interact with the internet

Source: The Browser Company

Search is a huge part of the internet. Trillions of searches are initiated online every year and it’s estimated that 58% of Google’s $162 Billion revenue in 2022 came from search ads. So when someone says they have a better alternative to search the internet, it’s kind of a big deal.

After Perplexity made a splash recently with its AI-powered search engine, The Browser Company has just announced another AI-powered alternative that claims to provide a better online search experience.

It’s called Arc Search and it combines a search engine, a browser, and AI into something new and different. Whereas traditional search engines return a list of links you have to click through to find what you’re looking for, Arc Search looks through these links itself and creates a unique webpage with more intuitive answers made just for you.

Essentially, Arc Search saves you time and effort by searching on your behalf and organizing all the relevant information into a new webpage. CEO Josh Miller claims that Arc Search provides a 2x faster search experience than Safari and Chrome.

Data from popular benchmark shows Google’s Bard has GPT-4 beat, and getting close to GPT-4 Turbo

Source: Chatbot Arena Leaderboard

Is OpenAI about to lose its lead to Google? That’s the question churning in the minds of many people in the industry this week as results from a popular benchmarking website show that Google’s Bard (powered by Gemini Pro) is the first contender to outperform OpenAI’s GPT-4.

The numbers come from the Chatbot Arena Leaderboard, a crowdsourced open platform for AI model evaluation that ranks models based on 200,000+ human preference votes. Google’s Bard jumped to second spot last week with a slender lead over GPT-4 — but still lags behind GPT-4 Turbo.

The sudden leap in performance is impressive considering that Bard is currently powered by Gemini Pro — Google’s second-tier AI model which is one step below Gemini Ultra, the top-end model which is coming soon. The step up in performance has raised speculation that Gemini Ultra could claim GPT-4 Turbo’s crown as the top-performing model very soon.

But AI models are a game of cat and mouse. OpenAI has consistently beaten its own records and others are catching up. Speculation has been rife for weeks that OpenAI is close to releasing GPT-5, which could reclaim the top spot from the supposedly superior Gemini Ultra. Meta is also rumored to be on the verge of announcing Llama 3, the next version of its popular open-source AI model.

Some observers have gone as far as to say that all AI models are trending towards convergence in performance levels, which could render these models a commodity and instead shift the value creation towards apps built on top of these models. Interesting times lie ahead.

How to use ChatGPT’s new GPT integration feature

ChatGPT recently introduced tags, which you can use to integrate various GPTs directly in your prompts. Here’s how to use the feature:

  • Open ChatGPT and type a prompt

  • Now type ‘@‘ in between the conversation and type the name of the CustomGPT you want to select from the menu.

  • This CustomGPT will now have the context of your previous conversation and you can prompt it to give you the desired results.

For instance, you can ask ChatGPT any question and then type ‘@Diagrams:Show Me’ to show the result as a diagram.
